  4. One of the problems for anyone running a WWW site, is ensuring that
  5. all of the links on the site are operational.  In spite of being very 
  6. careful in setting them up, almost every site has some æbrokenÆ ones.  
  7.  
  8. CyberSpyder Link Test is a WebMasterÆs friend as it will check all 
  9. of the links on a site and report on any that no longer work!
  10.  
  11. The æWebMasterÆ may be responsible for all of the links in an server 
  12. installation, or may be an individual or company with a large number 
  13. of links under their home page. CyberSpyder Link Test may be used 
  14. to handle either or both situations.
  15.  
  16. This software is purposely supplied without a setup or install program.
  17. This version of the program was written using VB 3.0.  Since users
  18. may have either VB 4.0 or VB 3.0 installed and may be running 
  19. Windows 3.1x, Windows 95, or a version of Windows NT, it was felt
  20. that it was safer to just supply the necessary modules and let the
  21. user manually handle the installation.

  23. To install this program, create an appropriate directory (e.g. LNKCHEK)
  24. and unzip the files into it.  The files included in the zip file are:
  25.  
  26.     install.txt    This file - can be deleted if desired
  27.         lnkchek.exe      The main executable
  28.         lnkchek.hlp      The help file for the program
  29.     cmdialog.vbx    VB 3.0 vbx used by the program 
  30.     threed.vbx    VB 3.0 vbx used by the program
  31.     ipport.vbx    communications VBX used by the program
  32.     ipport.lic    license file for ipport.vbx
  33.     ipport.hlp    Help file for ipport.vbx
  34.     vbrun300.dll    VB 3.0 dll required to run webfix
  35.     commdlg.dll    dll required by VB 3.0

  37. lnkchek.exe, lnkchek.hlp, ipport.vbx and ipport.lic should be left in
  38. the program directory.  
  39.  
  40. ipport.hlp is the Windows help file for ipport.vbx.  If you wish to
  41. use this control for your own projects, you should keep this file, 
  42. otherwise it may be deleted.  (See CyberSpyder Link Check Help - 
  43. Copyright and Tradmark Notice section for more details.)

  45. If you have VB 3.0 Professional installed on your system, or you have 
  46. installed other programs written in VB 3.0, then you may already have 
  47. cmdialog.vbx, threed.vbx, vbrun300.dll and commdlg.dll in your 
  48. windows\system directory.  You should check, and if you have them, 
  49. these can be deleted.  If you do not have them, then copy vbrun300.dll 
  50. and commdlg.dll to your windows\system directory - cmdialog.vbx and 
  51. threed.vbx can also be copied there or can be left in the program 
  52. directory.

  54. lnkchek.exe is the the main executable file.  Add it to an appropriate
  55. program group (or Start menu item in Windows 95).
  56.  
  57. The program requires windows sockets - if you run a browser such
  58. as Netscape from the PC, then you can run this program.
  59.  
  60. View the help file for additional information on using the program.  
  61. Note that the reports produced by the program are produced as HTML
  62. documents.  A sub-directory, 'reports', is created under the directory
  63. from which 'lnkchek.exe' is run and the report files are written to
  64. that directory.

  66. CyberSpyder Link Test is distributed as shareware.  It may be 
  67. freely redistributed as long as all of the original files in this
  68. package are included.  (See Help file for more details)
